# The Developer API guide

## Set up Developer API, step by step

By the end, you have an app with an API key, and your code has made its first call to Dbrij.

Before you start, have these ready

- A developer comfortable calling a web API.

1. ### Create an app

  Open **Apps and keys** and press **New app**. An app holds your keys, webhooks and usage.

2. ### Create an API key

  In the app, press **Create API key** and name it, such as Server key. Copy it straight away; it is shown only once.

  You will know it worked when the key is listed in the app.
3. ### See what you can build with

  API products lists everything you can call and where each one’s keys are made: meetings and chat here, email in Send, SMS in Ping, search in Search and support in Resolve.

4. ### Make your first call

  The API docs have the request for each product, ready to copy.

  You will know it worked when your call shows up under Logs.
5. ### Listen for events

  Webhooks tell your server when things happen, such as a message sent or a meeting ended. Add your address and pick the events.

## Questions people ask

### I lost my API key.

Keys are shown once and cannot be shown again. Create a new one in the app and delete the old one.

The Developer API lets your own product use Dbrij: embed meetings and chat, and let people sign in with Dbrij. Everything belongs to your normal Dbrij account. Email, SMS, search and support have APIs of their own, in Send, Ping, Search and Resolve.
